The Aitken Basin is 2,500km in diameter, 6.2 to 8.2km deep, and formed roughly 4.2 billion years ago. It is heavily marked with other craters that have impacted the same site. The moon's surface has only been changed by impact craters for billions of years until humans have reached its surface. The Vredefort Crater the Earth’s largest known crater is 2 billion years ago and measures 300 km (190 mi) in diameter has almost vanished, not by human actions but through the wind, moisture, and the changing face of a living breathing planet.
The question driving the creation of this work was how trauma leaves traces, scars, and marks on the body. It is about the visibility of those marks and how on the surface many wounds may not be visible. Some bodies heal, some bodies conceal, some erase, and some lay bear in intense clarity.
